Dear
Student-Athletes, Parents/Guardians and Fans of LHS Athletics:
Once again we embark on another athletic season here at
Leominster High School. The 2006-2007 seasons were extremely
successful, and our student-athletes again represented
Leominster High School with class, style and dignity. We tend to
expect that here at Leominster High School, and will continue to
hold our student-athletes accountable at a higher level while
representing school and community.
Before the season actually begins, there are a few housekeeping
details that all student-athletes and their parents/guardians
will need to know:
• There will be a mandatory pre-season student-athlete meeting
(regardless of the
season in which you
participate) on August 19th @ 4:00 p.m. at LHS in the
Aldrich Cousins Memorial Auditorium. At this time
student-athletes who have not done so, will register for their
respective sport, as well as present a copy
of a current physical to the Athletic Department
(any medical forms found to be falsified
will result in a one-
year student-athlete suspension ! ! ! ! ).
• Details on this meeting are available by viewing the
student-athlete preseason letter. Tentative practice
schedules are also available in this letter.
• LHS athletics sent out a summer mailing to any student-athlete
who pre-registered during the Spring of
2006. In this mailing was a copy of the pre-season student-athlete
letter, as well as a “blue” informational
sheet which is to be brought with you….filled out, on August 19th.
Any student-athlete who has not
filled
out a “blue” informational sheet and waiver will do so at this meeting.
• Please take time to view the “Leominster High School
Student-Athlete Handbook” available on our web site.
This booklet details the rules and regulations that govern MA High
School Athletics, as well as specific rules
for all Leominster High School student-athletes. It is in your best
interest to view this booklet before signing
on to participate in athletics at Leominster High School.
• Once again LHS Athletics is proud to be “teaming up” with the
University of Massachusetts Sports Medicine
Department for the 2007-2008 school year. A Sports Doctor, as well
as a Physical Therapist from
Worcester County Rehabilitation, will be available to all athletes
at Leominster High School (time and day
TBA). For the past 5 years this “team” has assisted in getting
athletes with sports related injuries back to
the playing surface in a quicker/safer fashion.
I look forward to seeing all of you on August 19th. Remember,
the meeting is mandatory for everyone who plans on participating
in athletics at Leominster High School and their
parent/guardian.
Chris Young, Athletic Director
All Student-Athletes & Parent/Guardians,
As another year approaches, we at Leominster High School
Athletics once again anticipate very successful sport seasons.
There will be a mandatory meeting for ALL sports candidates,
regardless of the season you participate in, with all coaches
and the Athletic Director on Sunday, August 19th, 2007 at 4:00
p.m. in the Leominster High School auditorium/wood gymnasium. At
this time the fall coaches from every sport will be on hand to
collect all the necessary paperwork from you in preparation for
the start of the 2007-08 athletic season, but student-athletes
participating in winter and spring athletics are also encouraged
to register at this time (see fall practice schedule below). I
will make a short presentation concerning our policies and
expectations for all student-athletes. The “Leominster High
School Handbook for Student-Athletes and Parent/Guardians” is
available for your review at www.leominster.mec.edu. Both you
and your parents/guardians indicate by your signatures on the
permission form that you “understand the policies and procedures
set forth herein will be enforced by the Leominster High School
Department of Athletics”. Please note that this will be the ONLY
meeting of athletes and their coaches for the year! If you miss
this meeting, then you will not be included in the athletic
database that coaches use to contact potential athletes! We
understand that everyone has a busy summer, including this
office…so PLEASE MARK THIS DATE ON YOUR CALENDAR, your
attendance with your parent/guardian is crucial! Any questions
you may have can be answered by calling me at (978) 534-7721.
MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR AUGUST 19TH REGISTRATION:
1. Past due equipment/uniform/money!!! If your
daughter/son owe any of these from last year, they are
ineligible to participate until each item has been resolved.
2. Physicals – NO PHYSICAL, NO PLAY! Every student
athlete must have a completed physical and or copy of their
current physical at registration. Physicals need to be renewed
every 13 months. It is best to have a summer physical because
then the student-athlete is covered for all (3) seasons.
3. User Fees – every athlete will be responsible for
paying this fee upon their name being placed on a final roster
(football and x-country employ a “no cut” policy.
Parents/guardians may make a user fee payment at this time).
The following fees will apply:
$75 per sport / per athlete
$150 ice hockey fee / no exceptions
$37.50 2nd athlete / same family
$No charge / same family
Checks or money orders are preferred and should be made payable
to: “Leominster High School Athletic Association” (LHSAA). No
student will be allowed to participate in any activity, practice
or game, until this fee is paid. No one will be denied an
opportunity to participate on an athletic team due to financial
constraints. The Athletic Director is the only person allowed to
waive this fee.
