Early Childhood Programs - School Safety

To our Early Childhood families,

I am writing this letter as a review of our school safety procedures.  Please be assured that safety is always of utmost importance in all aspects of planning within our school environment.  We know that our students will learn best when they feel safe and secure in the school and in the classroom.  The following items summarize the actions and procedures that keep our students and staff focused on creating a safe environment.

Overall safety:

  • The Leominster Public Schools has a district safety plan in place that guides the work of our schools in the areas of safety and emergency preparedness.
  • We meet regularly with the staff to review safety issues.
  • All teachers, instructional aides and specialists walk students to and from classes outside of their classrooms.
  • Student entrance and dismissal is monitored by staff and administration daily.
  • Telephones are in each classroom and are in short walking distance on all school floors.
  • Classroom intercoms are accessible to and from our offices at all times.

Visitor Safety

  • Exterior doors are locked according to a specified schedule, and a counter aide monitors the front entry with a visitor sign in policy.
  • No child is released to anyone other than those adults listed on the emergency list signed by the parent and kept on file in the office.
  • A CORI check is done on all volunteers.  No volunteer will have unsupervised contact with children unless this CORI check is done.

Fire Safety

  • Quarterly fire drills are conducted in partnership with the Fire Department.
  • Frequent safety inspections are conducted by the Fire Department.

Health Safety

  • Health safety is carefully monitored by our school nurse with the assistance of staff and parents.
  • Staff members are CPR trained or are in the process of receiving training.
  • An automated emergency defibrillator (AED) is located on the premises.

In conclusion, your child’s safety is our priority at all times.  You can be assured it is a job we take very seriously.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have related suggestions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Jim Reilly, Principal
